By 7.00pm on 19 June 2007, 60
members of Singapore Professionals’ and Executives’ Co-operative (SPEC) had
signed in and settled comfortably in SPEC’s office at Singapore Conference Hall
for its 6th Annual
General Meeting.
- Positive reports of strong economy growth that led to employment gains and further drop in unemployment.
- SPEC had to shift its focus to provide enhanced services such as career advisory to help mature PMETs (professionals, managers, executives and technicians) settle down in their new jobs in this new economy and assist employers in their search for the right talent.
- SPEC introduced JobCentre@SPEC to continue its efforts to assist individuals and organisations in their recruitment and outplacement needs.
- PrimePlus@SPEC, a project funded by MCYS to help matured executives and professionals aged 50 and above to lead an active ageing life, was extended for another six months to June 2007.
- The Chairman reiterated on SPEC’s continual efforts to approach other governmental organisations for assistance in finding gainful employment or to take advantage of opportunities.
- Year 2006 saw 6.7% increment in membership to 1,634. New members were recruited mainly from corporate organisations and jobseekers who registered at Careerlink@SPEC, monthly networking sessions and Career Fairs.
- Members continue to give good feedback on the Group Insurance Plan for its portability.
- SPEC aspires to move away from being fund-reliant to a self-sufficient co-operative by identifying future revenue streams that would sustain its operation, thereby enhancing its position of being more than a “harbour of lives and opportunities” in time of difficulty and uncertainty.
- Successful re-appointment by the Founder of both teams for 3 and 5 years respectively.
